RECREATIONAL SKATES

WHAT ARE RECREATIONAL SKATES?

Recreational skates allow you to train your endurance and fitness on longer distances and have special features to be sporty but also comfortable. The inline skates for the recreational and fitness use have thicker padding and a higher shaft, so the skates offer you much hold, control and comfort at the same time. Even longer distances are therefore no problem. You can find out what to consider when choosing recreational skates in our RECREATIONAL SKATES BUYER'S GUIDE.

BUYER'S GUIDE RECREATIONAL SKATES

With our compiled information about fitness skating you have all our know-how at your side. So we make it easier for you to choose the right fitness skate.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIZE FOR YOUR NEW RECREATIONAL SKATES

HOW MUCH LARGER MUST SKATES BE?

Choosing the right size is one of the most important factors when buying fitness skates! Just like with all other types of inline skates: FITTING BEFORE FEATURES.

The skates have to enclose your foot AS COMPACT AS POSSIBLE, BUT STILL COMFORTABLE. So that you can enjoy your sport permanently. The best fitting is achvied, when you have contact with the side of the shoe and when standing straight you have contact to the front. In the skate position, your heel slides slightly backwards and you have minimal space in the front. The compact fit ensures the best possible power transmission, prevents chafing, blisters and protects the inner material.

Please note: All inline skates, especially fitness skates with thicker padding, will get a bit wider with time, so the skates should not be too big at the beginning.

In our FITTING-Guide we explain how to find the right size for your new fitness skates.

WHICH WHEEL SIZE FOR FITNESS SKATES?

In general, smaller wheels allow more maneuverability and a lower center of gravity. This is especially interesting for beginners and re-starters. Larger wheels offer a smoother roll, a higher top speed and it is easier to maintain the speed reached. However, fitness skates with larger wheels also have a higher standing height and more energy is needed to accelerate, so that the bigger wheels are more suitable for advanced skaters.

RECOMMENDATION WHEEL SIZE:
BEGINNERS AND RE-STARTERS: 80-90mm
ADVANCED SKATERS: 100-125mm

If you want to learn more about inline skate wheels, you will find all important information in our WHEEL-GUIDE.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FITNESS SKATE WITH THREE OR FOUR WHEELS?

For some years now, the inline skate market has been developing towards so-called 3-rollers. Since every manufacturer has found its own name for them, the terms can sometimes be confusing, but they all mean the same thing. Powerslide uses the name TRI, Rollerblade 3WD and K2 Skates has a 3-roller model called TRIO.
Over the years, the wheel sizes became larger and larger and the frames became very long. Of course, the length of the frame gives a lot of stabilty, but longer frames are also extremely inconvenient, so that the curve radius has become larger and larger and the transitions has become more difficult.

By using three instead of four wheels, the frames can be constructed alot shorter, so that on the one hand the speed advantage of the large wheels is retained and the skates are still very maneuverable. This development has opened up a new dimension for inline skating, as the skates are agile but also fast and offer a smooth roll.

But there are also good reasons for the classic 4-wheel models. Due to the mostly larger wheels, the 3-wheelers also have a higher stand height, which often takes some time getting used to for beginners. For learning or the re-entry into skating, 4-wheels skates are better suited than 3-wheelers.

That cannot be generalized, sporty persons with a certain previous experience, get along frequently also very well with the 3-wheelers.

TIP:
3-wheelers with a maximum wheel size of 100mm have the best all-round characteristics of manoeuvrability, standing height and speed.

INLINE SKATING AS A SUPPLEMENT TO RUNNING, CYCLING & SKIING

WHERE DOES THE MUSCLE COME FROM!?

Inline skating trains similar muscle groups as running or cycling, but the movement is not as linear, which benefits your overall performance. The increased strain on your abdominal and back muscles improves your posture and stabilizes your body. This way you train new skills, you become faster, more flexible and are ready for new best times. when running or cycling.

OVERLOAD? JUST LET IT ROLL.

The strain on the knee and hip joints is significantly lower when inline skating than when running. During skating, less eccentric muscle strain occurs, which results in a movement sequence that is easier on the joints. Inline skating is the optimal alternative and complementary sport for runners to keep the loss of fitness in case of overstrain complaints as low as possible.
