Bearing - Info
Bearingsize
We offer two different Bearingsizes. First the standard-sizewith the designation of 608 and second the micro-bearings (with the size designation 688), The latter is used very rare and for sure sometime the micro-bearings will die off.
In most Speed and Fitness Skates are mounted the standard-bearings (608). These bearings are very robust and easy to clean. The micro-bearings (688) which are a little lighter are used very rare. The reason is that large wheels (90 millimetres, 100 millimetres, 110 millimeters) are used more and more. This in turn is because of if you speed the lateral forces work even more closely on the bearings by large whells. The small micro-bearings are not made for that, so the durability of the bearings suffers. Also to open and clean the micro-bearings is more difficult, because all components still a bit smaller. We suggest the standard-bearings (608) for any range of use.
The material
For inline skating the following bearings are offered: Bearings which made from steel, laminated steel, stainless steel, ceramics and various combinations of materials. Crucial for the quality and durability of bearings is the material hardness. Ceramic-bearings are harder than steel- and stainless steel-bearings. The reason: balls from ceramics deform significantly less than steel balls, so have more stable true running characteristics also at high compression load. Whether this difference in Skating actually proves as a real advantage is not clear to prove.
The precise assessment of the hardness of the different materials is without special measuring not possible. Our experience shows that there are no problems with the durability of bearings especially from brand manufactureres. To avoid bad surprises, you should therefore not install cheap No-Name products in your wheels.
Another important issue in case of choice of material is the corrosion resistance of a bearing. The big disadvantage of steelbearings is the high risk of corrosion after journeys in humid weather or even rain. Advantageous are coated bearings, stainless bearings and the quite new, high quality full-ceramic-bearings. Because this bearings are non-corroding bearings (Niro = Non-corroding). Everyone who like to skate no matter if the weather is fine or not should selcet this non-corroding bearings.
The Abec - classification
The classification, Abec3, Abec5 oder Abec7 is very often mistakenly used as a relevant criterion of quality. The name Abec (Annular Bearing Engineers Committee) is only for a convention of the producers of manufacturing tolerances and not for the overall quality of bearings.
The Abec appoint several geometric accuracy grade. Also the maximum allowable radial run out and axial run out of bearings. The differences between Abec5 and a Abec7 bearings for example at a radial run out is only tiny 0,002 millimeters. Of course, a high precision during manufacturing supports very smooth running characteristics, but the extremely subtle differences are in driving rather insignificant, because the place of fitting the wheels have much more tolerances. Therefore leaders often use Abec5 bearings.
The bearing (ball) cover
Bearings are bothside covered and closed to protect the small balls inside from dirt and wetness. This covers were manufactured of different material. It is called Z-Abdeckungen of steel or RS- or rather BRS-covers of plastic or rubber. The not grinding Z-covers offer adequate protection from dirt and dusty, not accelerating the roll resistance. The grinding RS- and BRS-Covers close the bearings even more effective. The grinding effect is especially after the run-in phase insignificant unimportant.
The Grease
There are greased, geled and oiled bearings. Fat (grease) provides a long-term stable greasinf film, which escalate the protection from dirt and wetness of the internal space. Fat is excellent for lubrication of many humid weather used - rustless Niro-bearings. Fat (grease) lubricated bearings must be run (partly up to 100 kilometers).
Gel represents a compromise between fat and oil. It is not quite as thin as oil, but also for good running characteristics. The Öllubrication is the solution for the spontaneous use because the oil has spread throughout the hole bearing after a few revolutions. Gel and Grease needs longer for it. The disadvantage of oiled bearings: The excess oil is thrown from the bearings reaches the external surfaces of the bearings and binds Dust which falls back inside the bearings as dirt-oil mixture. The lubrication oil film is sensitive and it needs new lubrication in very short intervals.
Basically you can also change the lubricants in a bearings.
